How do you choose the right social media manager for your business? Well, the number one thing is the person that you have your eye on or that you're thinking of to do your marketing for social media is do they use their phone Like? Are they on Instagram? Do they use Pinterest? If they don't tend to take very many photos and videos on their phone and use social media, chances are their learning curve is going to be so great that you're going to end up spending a ton of time training them to even just learn the basics.
Speaker 1:If you don't know me, I'm Brenda Eckhart. I'm a photographer of many, many years. I grew my business online completely organically. I rarely ever paid for a paid ad and when I did, it was always a huge mistake. I train up social media marketing managers for businesses so that they can focus on what they do best as owners of their business, and I train the social media marketing person all the intricacies of how to grow quickly online.
Speaker 1:So, with that said, looking at a social media marketing manager, it's important to figure out what their learning curve might be and what their natural talents are. It's like hiring an accountant that doesn't know numbers or doesn't know how to use a spreadsheet, and it's the same with social media marketing. You really need to be looking at someone that is familiar with these apps and uses them on their own for fun, or maybe has done it for other businesses before. You also need someone that's very trainable and someone that believes in your business. That's probably number one. Above all else, has this person been showing up on time for work? Do they seem to really love what they're doing? Are they proud of the role that they have currently in their job at your business or elsewhere? Do they tend to really believe in small businesses or mid-sized businesses? Are they very, very loyal or are they just kind of there for a paycheck? Everybody has their why and their talents and, generally speaking, social media marketing managers are not like the plug and play worker bee people. They're more creative. They're more of the cheerleaders, the people that are very loyal to businesses as shop shoppers, as consumers and as an employee. So those are the main things that I would be looking at if I were to be looking for a social media manager.
Speaker 1:The other thing is are they willing to work with a coach or someone if they're not touching on as quickly as you'd like them to, because there are times when you just really need to amp up the marketing and you need to do it right away. The economy is a little volatile right now, as we all know, and there are a lot of people that are thinking we really have to kick things with a high gear. But if you have someone and I hate to say it, but I say it like if you're dragging a dead body along the road trying to get somebody motivated to do their job you do not want them handling your marketing in any way, shape or form. You need to go get her that is constantly listening to what it is that's happening in your business, what you want to see more of coming in the door or online, and just somebody that's really responsive and responsible and interested in the topic of what your business is, the industry that you're in. I hope that was helpful.
Speaker 1:If you're considering hiring a marketing manager and you're just not sure where to begin, feel free to reach out. I'm happy to give you some tips and to talk it through with you. I'm also willing to help you source that person if you're looking for the right person, or just to give you some bullet points of things to really think about If you have a team and you have your eye on a few different people, there are some strategies to help you narrow down. If you are a social media marketing manager and you're just looking for someone to help get you over a few roadblocks, learn some of the things that you're just struggling with. Reach out. I coach people all the time on how to grow accounts online, and I do it all without paid ads, so I hope this was helpful. Please let me know if you have questions and I look forward to talking with you in the future.
